When God blesses us with a natural gift, THAT is our calling. Embrace it. .My older sisters passed on their talent and skill with braiding hair when I was a little girl. It allowed me to begin braiding my siblings hair as young as age 10, and eventually led to me working in a local hair salon as a hair braider at age 16. What I enjoyed most about working in the salon was the vibe from a combination of the music, the conversations and women and girls leaving happier than when they arrived.
I enjoyed doing hair yet I experienced burn out within a few short years. A combination of being the only full time braider in an environment that wasn't fueled by the embrace sisterhood and positive energy. Had the sole reason been exhaustion from working long hours at six days a week, a vacation here and there would have sufficed. There was a negative negative energy in this environment though, caused by by an experience that made me feel unappreciated and to be completely honest, hurt. So I sought out to find a new job in a different field and transitioned into my new life.
It's funny how I just knew running from the beauty/hair industry was in my reality yet the Universe saw it fit I make my way back. I began doing hair again over the past year (to barter with relatives whom I trust to watch my autistic daughter, Sania) and found myself enjoying it. So much so I realized my ability to braid hair is a gift.
So I proud to share today, my Hair Bar inside of my Events + Beauty Showroom exists.
One of the most exciting parts associated with re-entering the beauty and hair industry is supporting black girls in urban communities whose families may not have the means to properly groom them. A part of Brown Skin Women's growth includes a partnership with local nonprofit RiseUP. Eight beautiful young ladies are being offered a new Brown Skin Women Youth Membership club that includes their hair being done on a monthly basis and inclusion in all of my month youth summits and annual youth weekend retreat..
The Universe blessed me with a series of talents and gifts, and like a colleague once told me, I am the nucleus within this community. It's time I use what I am blessed with to positively grow and further develop within the black community. It is to this end, Brown Skin Women & my Events + Beauty Showroom Services exists.
To make this more of a special experience, I decided to add a Bronze level to my Membership Club. For $60 per month this my members can look forward to:
Love + Bear Hugs,
p.s. you dont have to be a member to make an appointment :)
