Doing what's best for you is probably one of the most amazing things you can do for yourself.
This is coming from someone who would always prioritize other people, their wants, their needs, and their desires.
That whole "cup runneth over" thing...I was fueling other people before fueling myself.
It ended up turning into me disliking the space that I was in, disliking the work that I was doing and even disliking some of the people who were in my life. Because I felt as though they were always taking taking taking. What I didn't realize is that I was always giving, giving, giving.
No one knows what best for you, but you.
Since I created BSW in 2013 the focus has been on natural hair.
Our mission has always been to focus on natural hair, beauty and wellness.
Why? Because after learning to embrace my natural hair, came learning more about myself as a black woman and a lot more. Once I learnt that what I did internally made me feel better externally, I started thinking of ways to enhance my inner being. Yoga is probably one of the most amazing arts I’ve learned and now obsess over. It allows me to relax, get quiet and focus, its amazing the strength and peace you will experience. Knowing that how well I treat myself directly impacts the way I treat others and my work, I'm enthusiastic about focusing on my inner self.
Will that said ladies, the focus now is not just on natural hair but also on beauty and wellness. We will explore areas that will help us grow and become one with whatever comes our way. My daughter has Autism and it makes me an aggressive control freak. This is my truth. These are areas I have recognized and accepted and am working on correcting as best I can. Some of us may be ashamed of what makes us weak, but the truth is, these things make us more alike than unalike. So I say, embrace them. Know them. Accept them. And lets work on them together, from the inside out.
I look forward to seeing you lovely ladies soon!
Life can be incredibly hard at times. When this happens it is best to focus on the good and what could make the situation a little easier.
My situation involves natural hair and autism. Specifically my daughter, Sania. I’ve struggled with caring for and styling her hair simply because she hates it. It’s a constant battle and only makes her irritable and myself frustrated, anxious and eventually stressed. So this past weekend, I addressed the issue once and for all.
I did the big chop!
